2021 was another successful year for the Hazardous Waste and Recycling Program. The program had 231 participants attend the Household Hazardous Waste (Clean Sweep) Events. In total, we were able to safely dispose of 9,934 pounds of household hazardous wastes. The number of participants compared to 2020 is up by approximately 10 percent, while our total amount of hazardous waste is down by approximately 13 percent. From a program perspective, this is exactly what we are looking for as it means that we are reaching more people, but those people are potentially using less hazardous wastes. We look forward to hopefully see this trend continue in 2022.
For the Electronics and Appliance Recycling events, the program had its second best year ever with 478 participants attending our two collection events. In total, we disposed of approximately 80,000 pounds of electronics and appliances. Almost 400 cathode-ray tube (CRT) televisions and 111 computer monitors were recycled at our program in addition to the various appliances and assorted electronics.
