2009 WI Act 55
This legislation allows any member of the law enforcement community to pull over a driver who is transporting aquatic plant material attached to equipment. For the full law and the exceptions included therein, visit State of WI website.
NR40
This is Wisconsin's first Invasive Species Identification, Classification and Control rule. It provides a list of invasive species that are prohibited and restricted in Wisconsin. It also provides guidance on preventing the spread of invasive species. Most importantly, the rule holds individuals accountable if they spread invasive species without taking reasonable precautions. For the full text of the rules with all the exceptions, visit State of WI website.
VHS Laws
Laws to prevent the spread of viral hemorrhagic septicemia were strengthened after discovering VHS in the Lake Winnebago system. The rules can seem very complicated, but the bottom line is that people who recreate on our waters must not move any water, plants, or live fish from any water body. For the frequently changing rules and regulations regarding VHS, please visit the WDNR website.
