Clerk of Courts
Basic Responsibilities
The department of the Clerk of Courts handles the filings for the courts.

  • Civil
  • Small Claims
  • Traffic

Term of Office
Commencing January 2007, the term of office for the Clerk of Courts became a four year term. Election is always in the fall.

Further Responsibilities of the Clerk
The Clerk of Court is responsible for managing the administrative activities of the clerk's office and overseeing the performance of the statutory duties of the office. Those duties include the filing and case management of all proceedings handled through the justice system. 

The clerk additionally collects various fees, fines and forfeitures as ordered by the court or specified by statute. Jury management and the issuance of passports is also handled in the Clerk of Court office.

Efficient Duties
Duties are discussed and evaluated in order to determine the best and most efficient procedure to follow, in order to produce greater productivity with an end result of more revenue to the county. It is the goal of the office to abide by the ever-changing statutes that govern our daily duties in order to provide efficiency to the Judiciary.
