Law Enforcement Records
The Calumet County Sheriff’s Department Records Division handles all reports related to crimes that were written by Calumet County sheriff’s deputies. They also ensure that the reports were routed to the proper Calumet County departments for further action.

The staff of four full-time employees also handles record requests and report copies on behalf of the sheriff, who is the legal custodian of law enforcement records.

Police Reports
Please send a FAX containing your request to the Sheriff’s Department if you need a copy of a police report for an incident or an accident report that was handled by a Calumet County Sheriff’s Deputy (FAX:  920-849-1431).  You should contact the police departments of Brillion, Chilton, New Holstein, or Kiel if the incident or accident was handled by a patrol officer from those cities.

Exempt Records
Some Sheriff’s Department records are exempt from disclosure under the Wisconsin Open Records Law because they are protected by state or federal law, court decisions, or other rules and regulations. Any complaint which is currently open to investigation is exempt from disclosure.

No original documents may be removed from the Sheriff’s Department.  Inspection of records may be done inside the Sheriff’s Department in a separate room. The following are the fees for copies of public records:

The custodian of records may impose a fee upon the requester of a copy of a record which may not exceed the actual, necessary and direct cost of reproduction and transcription, photographing and photographic processing of the record, unless a fee is otherwise specifically established or authorized to be established by law.  The custodian of records may impose a fee upon a requester for locating a record, not exceeding the actual, necessary and direct cost of location, if the cost is $50 or more.  The custodian of records may impose a fee upon a requester for the actual, necessary and direct cost of mailing or shipping of any copy or photograph of a record, which is mailed or shipped to the requestor.
