How Do I?
Safe Routes to School
Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programs encourage children ages Kindergarten through eighth grade to walk and bike to school by creating safer walking and biking routes. SRTS programs improve walking and biking travel options, promote healthier lifestyles in children at an early age and decrease auto-related emissions near schools.

Grant funding is available through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation as an 80/20 match for communities and schools to develop and implement a SRTS program. Funding can be used for the creation of a SRTS plan, infrastructure (i.e., multi-use trails, crosswalks, bike racks), or educational programs (i.e., traffic education, bike rodeos).

Communities and school districts are encouraged to contact Dena Mooney for local assistance with this program.
